Behind-the-scenes information on 24 transgender individuals who try mass
suicide in India
In the Nandalalpura neighborhood of Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India, over 24 transgender people made simultaneous suicide attempts in protest of sexual harassment and sectarian strife against a single individual. They drank phenyl or floor cleaner and were taken to the hospital in a critical state. According to the police, they are in stable condition right now.
After learning about a disturbance at a residence in the Nandalalpura neighborhood, the police hurried to the scene, according to Anand Kalagdi, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for Indore. It was discovered by the police that some of the transsexual residents had become unwell after ingesting toxic drugs.
"An ambulance was called right away, and 24 patients were admitted to Maharaja Yashwantrao Hospital," stated DCP Kalagdi. Their status is stable and they are presently receiving therapy.
At first, the authorities attributed the mass suicide attempt to a long-standing conflict and competition between two transgender community groups. The leader of one group was accused of harassing members of the other group, according to DCR Kalagdi. The cops have filed a formal complaint after recording their comments.
Despite the police's first claim that the suicide attempt was caused by a communal dispute, locals and the transgender community have made another, more severe accusation.
A transgender person was recently assaulted, blackmailed, and threatened by two guys posing as journalists, according to Neha Kunwar, who is involved with a transgender dera in the Nandalalpura neighborhood. Following this incident, the victim filed a formal complaint with the police last Tuesday, and a formal complaint was filed.

Additional DCR (Crime) Rajesh Dandotia acknowledged that Akshay and Pankaj are the accused in relation to the claims of sexual harassment and extortion. On June 12, they are accused of torturing and blackmailing the victim.
The police, however, declined to comment at this time regarding the clear connection between the mass suicide attempt and the claims of sexual harassment. According to the police, a comprehensive investigation is being conducted into both instances, and they are handling them as "different problems."
